Samudree Artist Block Print Dress

Wandering Silk's Jamdani Artist dress is cut in a silhouette flattering to a range of shapes and sizes: the flat collar frames the face; the slightly fitted dolman sleeves add shape to the over-sized cut; and gathers under the gusset add drama and weight to the light cotton.

Artist dress is mid-calf length, has side pockets and closes down the center front with mother of pearl buttons, allowing it to be worn as a dress or as an open overlay.

The delicacy and softness of this fabric has to be touched and seen to be believed: the fine count khadi cotton is hand spun and hand woven which is then block printed with 12 different blocks to get this "samudree" piece alive. 

Plumb the depths of the sea with Samudree; a collection of complex 12-block prints that layer colour upon colour to create a vibrant, underwater world. Look closely and you'll discover whimsical characters- HOWS has taken great joy in adding quirky, tiny details to these incredible prints. 

Together with a team of talented, young designers, block makers & printers in Jaipur & Sanganeer - both centuries-old block printing centers - we've taken hand block printing to a new level of complexity & depth.

Samudree means nautical in Hindi, and while the technique & process are rooted in a centuries-old textile culture, we've looked for inspiration not from the traditional land-based floral block prints of the region, but from the ocean and the rich world that lays within it.

​Most block print clothing uses 3-5 block patterns, so these designs really stretched our whole team of designers, block makers & printers. Hope you enjoy adorning them as much as it was fun creating them.
