Hand crafted from wooden prayer beads covered in upcycled silk sari fabric with 12 strings of beads. Open ties in the back allow you to wear the necklace at any length.
HOWS' signature upcycled sari necklaces are designed to utilise the smaller remnants of our production processes, as part of our zero waste policy.
Their artisan partner, a family of around a dozen women & men, are Bihari migrants living in Delhi who have perfected the production process since making our first necklace over a decade ago.
Every step in the process is intentional: we first select the most striking colours & prints from the mountains of recycled sari remnants in our workshop. These scraps are matched with colourful cotton thread selected, piece-by-piece, for maximum visual appeal & then sewn into narrow tubes. For our beaded styles, the artisans fill these tubes with wooden prayer beads, hand-stitching each bead into place with the thread.
Any variations or irregularities are to be celebrated. They are part of the design & inherent to the handcrafted production process, making this item beautifully unique
