Crafted in light habutail silk with laborious bandhni - a hugely time consuming tie and dye technique - carefully positioned to create nold patternng across the piece.

Story Behind the Design

Bandhani, a 1,500-year-old resist-dye technique emerging from the mists of history, is translated into a futuristic aesthetic. From minuscule pinpricks to maximal polka dots, we engineer concentrations of bandhani against negative space to create striking visual rhythm.

Reminiscent of a code, every dot bears the imprint of its maker. Each pinch of fabric is individually wrapped in thread while held between the artisan's fingers to resist the dye - an extraordinarily labour-intensive process in which no two pieces are ever identical.

Crafted by two groups of women, the collection bridges inherited knowledge and contemporary practice. Our first partners work in the desert villages of far western India, where bandhani has been passed from mother to daughter over generations, specialising in fine pinprick bandhani that represents the highest level of technical skill in the craft.

Our second partners, migrant women on the outskirts of Delhi, have learned the technique more recently and specialise in our bold, large-scale designs. Together, they connect the humble origins of bandhani with an ultra-modern aesthetic—a testament to the enduring relevance of handmade design.
