Description

This extraordinary design traces its lineage to 19th-century Rajasthan. Inspired by the traditional atamsukh, literally “giver of pleasure to self”, and adapted from the original Jama Robe of Persian decent, we’ve reimagined this 200-year-old silhouette into a contemporary interpretation.

  • A sweeping wrap-over style with functional ties on both the inner and outer panels, this piece can be worn in multiple ways: leave it open as a dramatic robe with cascading front panels, or secure the ties to transform it into a sculptural tunic-dress.
  • Super-oversized body balanced with dropped, narrow, full-length sleeves
  • Close-fitting kimono collar lends refined structure when worn closed
  • Triangular side panels create its generous, architectural volume, finishing at an elegant knee length

Size Detail

  • One size: fits XS-XL comfortably
    • Length center front 40”
    • Chest 70” round
    • Sleeve length 22”

Textile Story

Our tussar silk is woven by a handloom cluster in West Bengal, where the craft has been passed down through generations. Tussar, known as “wild silk,” comes from silkworms that feed on forest leaves, giving the fibre its natural texture and characteristic depth. The yarn is reeled and prepared by hand before being woven on pit looms in a weaving society.

Because tussar silk - which comes from different species of silkworms than the more commercialised and cultivated mulberry silk -  is less uniform, it requires patience and sensitivity at the loom. Bengal artisans work with its natural irregularities, allowing the gentle slubs and subtle shifts in tension to form part of the cloth’s character. The result is a fabric with a quiet, earthy beauty; breathable, textured, and distinct to each maker.

Every piece of handloom tussar silk carries the imprint of its origin: forest-grown fibres, traditional skills, and the steady rhythm of human hands. Any variations or irregularities are to be celebrated. They are part of the design & inherent to the handcrafted production process, making this item beautifully unique.
