Phulkari embroidery, a vibrant art form from Punjab, India, has a rich history rooted in the 15th century. It is believed to have originated with womenfolk decorating everyday clothing items like veils and shawls. Phulkari embroidery traditionally used heavy fabrics like khaddar (a coarse cotton) and was created using colorful silken thread and a darn stitch on the back of the fabric. These vintage quilts are made of this coarse cotton as described.
