Our handwoven zari robe cascades like liquid mercury over the body. These Dune Robes are one-size overlays, crafted from a single length of fabric and designed to make our beautiful textiles into highly wearable pieces which drape, layer and flow beautifully. This style is crafted from metallic thread woven onto a khaadi cotton base. It has a rich, lustrous shine; the texture is soft but the fabric maintains its shape. The cloth gets richer with wear, as the fabric creases and folds. A thin red selvage along the back, sleeves and hem, adds a finishing touch to this gorgeous piece

Story Behind the Design

This robe is the result of a lengthy process, whereby cotton fibres are carefully hand spun and hand woven by rural Bengali weavers. This fabric is known as khaadi and for this style, we have added a high-shine zari thread into the weave to give an incredibly rich shine and lustre. Any variations or irregularities are part of the design and inherent to the production process.

The yarn spinning is done by members of KVI, a government-supported non-profit organisation providing rural artisans with regular work. Weaving is completed by a for-profit family-run company ensuring weavers get full-year employment and fair wages. Garments are stitched in our Delhi workshop where workers receive well above the minimum wage and enjoy flexible, safe and comfortable working conditions
